By Joe Kruszewski, KC2SVSOur first Radio Night at the firehouse occurred on Wednesday July 12, 2017 at 6 PM. Eight members showed up to hang out, gab about radio and play with some of the gear. Attendees were: Anand, Bob Bedard, Bob Witham, Matt, Denis, Rich Fennessey, Ian and me. At first, we set up a table downstairs, talked for a while and then got a show and tell from Denis on his EBAY purchase of a 1970ish emergency lifeboat radio that looks like a large yellow tool box. It floats, has three frequencies: one for phone and two for CW. It came complete with a double hand crank to provide power.
Ian brought in a kit that he just built but did not test yet. It was a “BITX40” transceiver that he purchased on line from India for $70. We went outside, hooked it up to the G5RV that we have set up in the firehouse yard. Ian’s first contact was a guy in New Hampshire. I guess Ian did a good job assembling that kit.
Our restart of Radio Night was a success with a lot of enthusiasm. We plan to have radio nights on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month from 6 PM to maybe 9 PM. We’ll see you at the next one on Wednesday July 26, 2017 at 6 PM. I heard Ian mention that he may bring in something re JT 65.
